Fall is my favorite season! At least during fall it is. I also love winter! And spring…and summer! There are aspects of each season that suck but there are so many wonderful things about each time of year that I cannot choose which would be my favorite. This morning I walked outside and it was 62 degrees. Oh man!! That’s the good stuff. That feeling you get when you breath in the fresh crisp cool air, well there isn’t much that is better. Especially after a gruellingly hot summer like we had in Texas! I can close my eyes and almost transport to all the beautiful places I have been with the same feeling in the air. How awesome is that?! To be able to take a deep breath and feel memories!
But can fall mean more than just the time of year? Besides the literal meaning of falling that is. Stay with me here!! We call it fall because the temperature falls and the leaves on the trees fall as well. I’m not saying we can’t call it autumn, but as a southern girl I just can’t change some things! How simple though, fall. Because things fall. As I take a deep breath of this lovely cool air I wish life could be as simple as naming a season! You see the temperature may fall and the leaves may fall but what happens after that? Well things get really cold and some things die. Bears hibernate and lakes freeze over. (Not in Texas!) But the simple and beautiful act of falling, then being..done, happens.
Dang. Life really is like the seasons. You can be at the top of the world and then here comes fall. You can’t always control it. Sometimes it is meant to happen. You may have to lay low for a while. Just be. Stop, think, figure your shit out. Because there is nothing wrong with just stopping for a little while to readjust and get ready. Get ready for what you may ask?? Spring! Because as you can’t stop fall or winter from coming you also can’t stop spring! You can delay it, or make it suck. But if you believe in yourself, if you pray and find what direction in life you are going to go your spring will be lovely. Warm and fuzzy feeling with metaphorical flowers blooming everywhere.
I guess what I am trying to say is life is never a steady line. If it was you would be dead. Look at electrocardiograms. Like in a movie if you have never seen on in person. It shows your heart beat. Up and down constantly. But what happens when it flat lines? They call your time of death. Don’t you just love metaphors?! I do! Because when you can’t think of how you will get through some things you just need to find something that you can relate to. Emotions, heart beats, seasons, pogo sticks…they all go up and down at some point. When you are in the fall, just think about that spring. You may not know how long it will take to get there but optomism and faith will get you back up.
So. Never give up. Some things have to fall to spring back up and be better than ever. It may be hard to enjoy the fall but deep breaths and memories can get you though it.
