My Practically Perfect Life

Someone once told me that their favorite kind of person is someone who loves Jesus, likes to drink beer and says the “F” word! Well here I am! I am first and foremost a mom! I am a realtor, I remodel houses, I am ordained to officiate weddings and I am a certified fork lift driver! I love to travel anywhere and everywhere I can!! I enjoy working on cars and trucks, I love to cook and I enjoy learning new things about as much as I can! Nobody is perfect, life would be boring. But my life is as close as it comes! Practically Perfect in every way!!

So I saw a shooting star

This morning I was able to watch the night sky slowly evolve into the morning sky. With the colorful brush strokes of deep orange and all shades of yellow as the sun peaked its way above the horizon blending softly into the blue of the still dark sky with its shining stars. What a beautiful sight that is, the breaking of dusk. When it is still the afore and hereafter. A standstill of time that allows you to breathe in the new day and breathe out the old.

Before the sun shown its beauty, I was able to watch the dark sky full of stars in all the wonder and beauty that they shine. And as I was admiring the sky I saw a shooting star.

Ok, to start off with yes, I know that shooting stars are actually just the burning dust of a meteor that is entering earth’s atmosphere really fast and vaporizing as it does. But, just because there is a scientific explanation behind it does not mean that the joy and excitement of seeing one has to go away. Why not make a wish? It’s what you do. Birthday candles, coins in a fountain, 11:11 on the clock are all times that people make wishes. So as a fellow human, I made a wish. Well, more like a conversation. Because how do you make a wish when you don’t know what to wish for?

You see, as I was driving through the middle of west Texas along the empty highway which allowed me the extravagant view of the sky, I already had a smile on my face. In fact before I saw said shooting star I had already had the thought that my life was amazing. Prayers have been answered for multiple things, hard work has paid off and the ability to see that is evident. So how do I decide what to wish for when my wishes were already coming true?

I don’t know the rules when wishing upon a shooting star, do you have to make the wish really fast? Do you get to explain the wish like you are saying a prayer? Is it a one word thing or do you get to explain it? If you say it wrong like to a genie will you get something you didn’t mean?!! So I did my best. And then the most amazing thing happened! Another shooting star!! So I got a second wish!!

I know what you are thinking right now, what did I wish for. World peace? To end hunger? That the Cowboys make it to the Superbowl this year?! No, I didn’t wish for any of those things. I thought about the people in my life that make me smile. I thought about the new part of my life that I fit so perfectly into. I thought about the challenges in life I have faced recently and the changes I have and are still making. And then I made my wishes.

If they had come true I was going to walk into my house and dive into it full of money like Scrooge McDuck and then after my swim I would find a candy bar. That’s right folks!! Those were my wishes!! Because when you have everything else you need, the only things it makes sense to wish for were to go swimming through a fortune and get a treat afterwards!!

So keep wishing! On anything that gives you that excitement that comes with seeing something special and the innocent elation. Because a life without wishes is a life I don’t want to live!
